OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.120 standard indicates that all employees who respond to a hazardous materials emergency must receive training based on their level of activities at the incident. Level 5 incident command training is for managers, supervisors or designated employees who will assume control of a hazardous materials incident beyond the initial response effort. The OSHA standard requires a minimum of 24 hours of training at this level. Topics include regulatory overview, risk analysis, incident management and the incident management system overview, selection of personal protective equipment, detection equipment use and limitations, safety plan development and use, decontamination and function of an Emergency Operations Center. Suggested prerequisites: Awareness Level 1 and Operations Level 2 training or equivalent.
